2008 Game Day - VARSITY BASEBALL (14-6 Overall, 12-4 Conf, 9-1Div)
June 3 - SECTIONAL Semi-final - De Pere vs. Kimberly:  Kimberly 6  De Pere 1
    Kimberly used a big third inning to defeat De Pere in the first game of Sectionals on Tuesday.  The inning
    was highlighted by winning pitcher Brad Schreiber's three run double to left field.  Bryce Bellin and Will
    Randerson also added RBI singles in the inning.  De Pere stranded eight runners in scoring position
    throughout the game.  De Pere did manage to score one run in the seventh inning.  Craig Hooyman walked,
    Brent Jorgensen reached on an error, Neal Henrigillis reached on an infield single and Mikole Pierce
    singled to score Hooyman.  Brad Schreiber pitched the complete game striking out seven De Pere batters.  
    He only gave up four hits and walked two.  Schreiber was also 2x3 with three RBI's.

    De Pere finished 14-6 on the season.

May 30 - REGIONAL FINAL - De Pere HOME vs. Kaukauna;  De Pere 9  Kaukauna 1
    De Pere defeated Kaukauna 9-1 in the Regional Final at De Pere on Friday.  De Pere jumped out to a 3-0
    lead in the first inning with an RBI single by Neal Henrigillis.  Mikole Pierce followed with a 2-run home run.  
    De Pere added four more runs in the third to take a 7-0 lead.  Joe Betcher had an RBI single and Garret
    Greeneway knocked in two more runs with a single.  Kaukauna managed one run in the sixth inning on a
    single by Phil Schreiber to score Jimmy Dercks.  De Pere got two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth
    to end the scoring at 9-1.  Henrigillis had the key two out single to drive in the runs.

    Henrigillis led the De Pere attack by going 3x4 with 3 RBI's.  Joe VandenAvond and Pierce were both 2x4
    with two runs scored.

    Josh Honzik pitched the complete game scattering six hits, striking out four and walking only one batter.

May 20 - Varsity @ Sheboygan South:
    De Pere (13-5, 12-4, 9-1 in East Division) finished the regular season on a seven game winning streak
    going into tournament play.  De Pere used a five run second inning to defeat Sheboygan South 13-5 to end
    their regular season.  Craig Hooyman and Neal Henrigillis had key two run hits in the key second inning.  
    Brent Jorgensen pitched the complete game striking out three South batters.  Joe VandenAvond and
    Henrigillis had two hits and three RBI's apiece.  Hooyman and Garret Greeneway also added two hits.

May 19 - Varsity @ Manitowoc Lincoln:  De Pere 7  Manitowoc Lincoln 2
    De Pere (12-5, 11-4) broke a scoreless tie in the third with three runs.  Neal Henrigillis and Mikole Pierce
    had back to back RBI doubles.  Nick Schadrie also added an RBI single in the inning.  Manitowoc scored
    one in the fourth to cut the lead to 3-1.  De Pere increased their lead to 5-1 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by
    Pierce and a solo home run by Joe Betcher.  De Pere scored two more unearned runs in the seventh to
    defeat Manitowoc 7-2. Josh Honzik earned t he win pitching five strong innings striking out five and walking
    only one.  Eight different De Pere hitters had a hit.  Joe Betcher was 2x4 to lead De Pere.  Morgan
    O'Connell was 3x4 to lead Manitowoc.  Tyler Wilke also added two hits in three at bats.

May 16 - Varsity @ Sheyboygan North:  De Pere 12  Sheboygan North 9
    De Pere (11-5, 10-4) defeated Sheboygan North for the second time in two days on Friday.  De Pere
    jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first.  North came right back with three unearned runs in the bottom of the
    first to tie the game at 3-3.  De Pere went right back to hitting in the second with four runs highlighted by a
    3-run home run by Mikole Pierce.  De Pere increased their lead to 10-3 in the fourth with an RBI double by
    Pierce and a two run double by Joe Betcher.  De Pere scored one in the fifth and one in the sixth led by
    Kyle Ott's two key singles in those innings.  De Pere led 12-4 going to the bottom of the 7th, but gave up
    five runs to make it interesting.  Ryan Gloe pitched 5 and 2/3 innings of relief to get the win.  Gloe struck
    out seven North batters.

May 15 - Varsity HOME vs. Sheboygan North:  De Pere 4  Sheboygan North 3
    De Pere scored two runs in the first inning on a Mikole Pierce two run double to right center field.  The hit
    drove in Joe VandenAvond and Brent Jorgensen.  The score remained 2-0 until the top of the sixth inning
    when Sheboygan North scored three runs.  Nohl Depies had a two run double scoring James Salm and
    Ryan Hamm.  David Thompson then knocked in Depies on a triple to take the lead 3-2 over De Pere. In the
    bottom of the sixth inning Kyle Ott had a two out single down the right field line to score Joe Betcher from
    second base on a head first slide at the plate.  In the eighth inning Joe Betcher walked, Garret Greeneway
    bunted Betcher to second and with one out Nick Schadrie hit a deep line drive over the left fielder's head to
    score Betcher to win the game  4-3. Betcher earned the win pitching the final two innings.  Betcher did not
    allow a hit or a walk.  Brent Jorgensen pitched a perfect game through the first four innings.

May 13 - Varsity HOME vs, GB Southwest:  De Pere 11  GB Southwest 4
    De Pere (9-5, 8-4) scored in every inning to defeat Green Bay Southwest 11-4.  De Pere scored two runs in
    the first two innings when there were two outs and no one on.  Mikole Pierce and Nick Schadrie delivered
    key doubles to get De Pere the lead.  Southwest battled back with three runs in the third on RBI's from Nate
    Vinoski and Gunner Eastman.  De Pere answered Southwest's comeback with three runs in the bottom of
    the third to regain the lead at 5-3.  De Pere opened the game up in the sixth inning by scoring four runs to
    end the scoring at 11-4.  Mikole Pierce was 3x4 with two doubles and two RBI's.  Nick Schadrie also added
    two hits and two RBI's.  Josh Honzik pitched the complete game striking out three and walking only one.

May 10 - Varsity @ GB East (DH Game 2):  De Pere 7  GB East 3
    De Pere defeated GB East 7-3 in the second game of the doubleheader.  Neal Henrigillis had three hits.  
    Joe Betcher drove in three runs and Garret Greeneway added two hits and an RBI.  Nick Schadrie earned
    the win pitching five strong innings.  Schadrie allowed only three hits.  Joe Betcher and Josh Honzik pitched
    the last two innings to complete the doubleheader sweep.

May 10 - Varsity @ GB East (DH Game 1):  De Pere 10  GB East 2
    De Pere used a six run sixth inning to defeat GB East 10-2 in the first game of the doubleheader on
    Saturday.  Brent Jorgensen and Joe Betcher had two hits and two RBI's apiece.  Garret Greeneway also
    added two hits and an RBI.  Jorgensen pitched six strong innings, allowing only one run on six hits and
    walked only one.

May 6 - Varsity @ Bay Port:  Bay Port 15  De Pere 5
    De Pere led 2-0 after three innings on RBI's from Neal Henrigillis and Mikole Pierce.  Bay Port tied the game
    at two in the fourth.  De Pere answered Bay Port's comeback with three runs in the fifth with three
    consecutive RBI singles by Brent Jorgensen, Joe Betcher, and Brian Driscoll to take the lead 5-2.  Bay Port
    scored two in the fifth and eleven in the sixth to win by the ten run rule 15-5.  Henrigillis, Pierce, and Garret
    Greeneway had two hits and an RBI for De Pere.

May 5 - Varsity @ GB Preble:  Preble 9  De Pere 5
    De Pere lost 9-5 to Green Bay Preble on Monday.  De Pere jumped out to a 1-0 lead with an RBI single by
    Joe Betcher.  Preble answered with three runs in first and three runs in the second to lead 6-1 after two
    innings.  De Pere scored two runs in both the third and fourth innings to cut the lead to 6-5.  Joe
    VandenAvond had two RBI's in the comeback.  Preble extended their lead by scoring one in the fourth and
    two in the fifth to end the scoring at 9-5.  Craig Hooyman, Mikole Pierce, and VandenAvond had two hits
    apiece for De Pere.

May 1 - Varsity @ Pulaski:  Pulaski 6  De Pere 0
    De Pere (6-3, 5-2) was shut out 6-0 by pitcher Wes Vomastic who pitched a complete game for Pulaski (6-
    1).  Vomastic struck out seven batters while allowing only three hits and walking zero.  Craig Hooyman, Joe
    Betcher, and Kyle Ott had the three hits for De Pere.

April 30 - Varsity HOME vs. Manitowoc Lincoln:  De Pere 5  Manitowoc 4
    De Pere (6-2, 5-1) defeated Manitowoc 5-4 in ten innings.  De Pere jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first
    inning and added one more in the third.  Manitowoc battled back to tie the game at 4 in the sixth inning
    highlighted by a two run double by Jeff Kick.  Ryan Gloe allowed just one hit in the final three innings of
    relief to earn the victory on the mound.  Joe Betcher doubled in the tenth and scored on a throwing error to
    win the game for De Pere.  Neal Henrigillis, Joe Betcher, and Joe VandenAvond had two hits apiece for De
    Pere.  Betcher added two RBI's. Winning Pitcher:  Ryan Gloe (1K)  Losing Pitcher:  Caleb Bruechert (3K)

    De Pere (5-2, 4-1) scored six runs in the sixth inning to break the game open and cruise to an 11-2 victory
    over Green Bay West (0-7, 0-4).  Joe Betcher pitched the complete game striking out five and allowing only
    three hits.  Brent Jorgensen and Josh Honzik were both 2x4 with two RBI's apiece.  Mikole Pierce also
    added two hits.  John LeCapitane took the loss on the mound for Green Bay West.

April 22 - Varsity HOME vs. Notre Dame:  Notre Dame 5  De Pere 4
    Notre Dame (6-0) scored two unearned runs in the first inning and another unearned run in the fifth to go
    on to defeat De Pere (3-1) 5-4.  Travis Derocha was 2x3 with four RBI's to lead Notre Dame.  Brody Miller
    also added two hits.  Chett Zeise pitched the complete game striking out eight batters and only walking
    one.  Mikole Pierce led De Pere's eight hit attack going 3x4 with three runs scored.  Brent Jorgensen and
    Neal Henrigillis collected two hits apiece.  Brent Jorgensen took the loss in relief.  Josh Honzik struck out
    four batters in four innings of work.

April 21 - Varsity HOME vs. Waupun:  Waupun 8  De Pere 4
    De Pere (4-1,3-0) lost their first game of the season to Waupun 8-4 in a non conference game.  Jake
    Wojahn and Ryan Rasmussen were both 3x4 with an RBI to lead Waupun's 15 hit attack.  Ben Navis got the
    win for Waupun.  Joe Betcher was 2x3 with an RBI for De Pere.  Mikole Pierce got the loss in relief.  Both
    Garret Greeneway and Brian Driscoll had sacrifice flies for De Pere in a four run sixth inning.

April 17 - Varsity HOME vs. Ashwaubenon:  De Pere 5  Ashwaubenon 2
    De Pere improved to 3-0 in the Fox River Classic Conference and 4-0 overall with a win over Ashwaubenon
    5-2 on Thursday.  Joe Betcher pitched the complete game allowing only three hits.  Neal Henrigillis led De
    Pere's ten hit attack by going 3x4 with an RBI.  Joe VandenAvond and Brian Driscoll also added two hits
    and an RBI apiece.

April 15 - Varsity HOME vs. Green Bay Preble:  De Pere 3   Preble 2
    Ross McCormick's single in the bottom of the eighth inning drove in Joe Vanden Avond with the winning run.
    Josh Honzik pitched a complete game for the Redbirds, and Joe Betcher and VandenAvond knocked in the
    other De Pere runs.

April 14 - Varsity HOME vs. Sheboygan South:  De Pere 2    Sheboygan South 1
    The De Pere Varsity Baseball team won their first Fox River Classic Conference game 2-1 over Sheboygan
    South.  Brent Jorgensen pitched the complete game striking out 10 batters.  De Pere fell behind 1-0 in the
    second inning.  In the fifth Ross McCormick hit a rocket down the left field line.  Mike Beyer ran for
    McCormick and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.  Tied at 1-1 South had runners at second and third
    with no outs and hit into a wild triple play to get De Pere out of the jam.  In the bottom of the seventh Brent
    Jorgensen bunted for a hit and later scored on a wild pitch to win it for De Pere.

April 5 - Varsity @ West De Pere (NC):  De Pere 9  West De Pere 6
    The De Pere Varsity baseball team opened their season with a 9-6 victory over West De Pere on Saturday
    in a non conference matchup.  Josh Honzik pitched five strong innings allowing only one hit and no runs.  
    Honzik was also 2x2 at the plate.  Mikole Pierce, Joe Betcher, Joe VandenAvond, Ross McCormick, and
    Craig Hooyman also added two hits.  Hooyman had three RBI’s and McCormick added two RBI’s.  Mikole
    Pierce hit the first pitch of the game out of the park to get De Pere started.
